I. Overview

Guangxi Arts University is located in the picturesque city of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. We are now jointly supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Guangxi Autonomous Region. Guangxi Arts University is renowned for its quality education and distinctive local features.

 GXAU was founded in 1938. Together with one arts research institute, GXAU comprises sixteen faculties, namely, College of Music, College of Dance/Affiliated Secondary SchoolCollege of Music Education, College of Film, Television and Media, College of Fine Arts, College of Design, College of Chinese Painting/Lijiang Painting School, College of Humanities, Academy of Architectural Arts, College of Plastic Arts, College of Fine Arts Education, College of Continuing Education, General Education Department and College of International Education.  

Disciplines development has been faring well in GXAU, boasting a fully-fledged system for higher education of the arts. The first degree discipline of fine arts, musicology and choreology, design studies as well as arts theory had been ranking high among Chinese institutions of higher learning. The disciplines of fine arts and musicology and choreology have been designated as provincial first-class specialties in Guangxi. Advertisement science specialty offered in GXAU has been included among the first batch of national first-class specialties.  

GXAU maintains collaborative relationships and cultural exchanges with 60 institutions of international renown from countries and regions. As the seat of China-ASEAN Training Center for Artists jointly designated by the ministry of foreign affairs and the ministry of education in 2012, we have so far offered training programs for more than 800 high-caliber artists from ASEAN. As major initiator of ASEAN-China Arts Colleges Alliance, we have organized various cultural exchanges events hosted by governments at various levels to facilitate arts and cultural cooperation and artists’ cultivation. Currently, the University boasts an enrollment of more than 60 international students and more than 600 students in the existing Chinese-Foreign Education Co-operation Programs. The past decade has seen our endeavor and achievement in promoting international exchanges and cooperation in arts creation and education. The emergence of many outstanding international students lends testimony to our efforts to promote international education.

 

II. Application Requirements

(1) Applicants whose father or mother is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, who acquired foreign nationality at birth and thus do not hold Chinese nationality; or applicants who were originally mainland Chinese (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents) and have acquired foreign nationality through immigration, applying for undergraduate studies at GXAU as international students: in addition to meeting other admission requirements, they must hold a valid foreign passport or other nationality proof for at least 4 years (up to April 30 of the enrollment year), and have a record of actual residence abroad for at least 2 years within the last 4 years (9 months of actual residence abroad in a year can be counted as 1 year, based on entry and exit stamps).

(2) Applicants must be in good health and meet the physical examination standards required for obtaining a Chinese study visa or residence permit.

(3) Applicants must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification (or higher) comparable to Chinese high school graduation.

(4) Applicants should be friendly to China, diligent and excellent in academic performance, of good character, law-abiding, with no record of violating school rules or regulations.

(5) Applicants must have no record of administrative penalties or criminal offenses.

(6) Language proficiency: For undergraduate programs, a minimum HSK Level 3 is required; for postgraduate programs, a minimum HSK Level 4 is required.

*Applicants who have completed 12 years of Chinese-language education and obtained the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) from some independent Chinese secondary schools in Malaysia may be exempted from the HSK requirement.*

(7) Applicants under the age of 18 by September 1, 2026, must provide a guardian guarantee letter.

 

III. Application Method and Materials

Online application: Please log in http://admission.gxau.edu.cn, register, and submit your application materials. If unable to access the system, please send your application materials to gxauinternational@163.com. Please upload the following documents clearly and completely as required:

(1) Guangxi Arts University International Student Application Form (see Attachment 1)

(2) Original final degree certificate; fresh graduates must provide the original expected graduation certificate. For documents not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be provided.

(3) Original or notarized copy of the complete academic transcripts from the final degree program. For documents not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be provided.

(4) Copy of HSK certificate and score report (originals will be checked upon registration; forgery will result in disqualification).

(5) Copy of passport photo page. If the applicant’s current passport validity does not meet the requirement (passport must be valid after September 2026), please renew it in time.

(6) Two passport-sized photos (same size as passport photo; one attached to the application form; electronic version in jpg format, pixel size above 480×640).

(7) Scanned copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (original to be kept by the applicant; this form is uniformly printed by Chinese health and quarantine authorities and must be completed in English). Applicants must strictly follow the required items on the form. Incomplete forms, forms without a photo or with a photo not affixed with a seal, or without signatures and seals from the physician and hospital will be invalid. The examination result is valid for 6 months.

(8) Portfolio or performance materials demonstrating ability in the applied major: submit an electronic portfolio of artwork or video of performance, etc. Portfolio requirements: original art works that represent the applicant’s actual level and ability; any theme, form, or style; any quantity; works must be completed independently.

(9) If available, other documents proving comprehensive abilities, such as award certificates, honorary certificates, admission letters from foreign universities (undergraduate or above), may be submitted together. This will help improve the evaluation of the applicant.

(10) For applicants under 18, relevant legal documents of the legal guardian in China must be submitted.

(11) Certificate of No Criminal Record. Applicants must submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security authority, generally issued within 6 months prior to submission.

(12) If necessary, GXAU may request supplementary materials.

Regardless of admission status, submitted materials will not be returned.

Note:

Uploaded materials must be clear, authentic, and valid. It is recommended to use professional equipment to scan documents. Consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable materials shall be borne by the applicant.

All application materials must be in Chinese or English; documents in other languages must be accompanied by a notarized translation.

Do not mail paper application materials.

Applicants in the following situations will be reviewed according to relevant national regulations:

Those who were originally Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality.

Those who acquired foreign nationality at birth with one or both parents being Chinese citizens.

Applicants under the age of 18 by September 1, 2026.

Students with official enrollment at GXAU who complete the required credits within the prescribed study period and meet graduation requirements will be awarded a Guangxi Arts University graduation certificate. Undergraduate students who meet the requirements for a bachelor’s degree will be awarded a bachelor’s degree certificate.

 

V. Admission and Registration

 

(1) After verifying application qualifications and passing the university’s professional examination, the university will issue the Admission Notice and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 Form).

(2) International students must apply for a visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country with the Admission Notice and the Visa Application for Study in China.

(3) Report to Guangxi Arts University, register, and pay tuition fees by the date specified in the Admission Notice.

(4) According to university regulations, all international students must purchase insurance as required.

 

VI. Fees

Tuition and accommodation fees for international students are set in accordance with the relevant documents of the Guangxi Provincial Department of Education and the Guangxi Provincial Price Bureau.

Tuition: 20,000 RMB per academic year for undergraduate programs; 25,000 RMB per academic year for postgraduate programs.

Accommodation: 5,000 RMB per year per person (double room).

The above fees are based on the previous year’s standards. If there are adjustments to tuition or accommodation fees, the new standards will apply.
